Beagles

Beagles

Characteristics and Behaviour:

The Beagle is a merry hound, full of stamina. He should be bold, alert and have an even temperament. Even though he has been domesticated he still retains the instinct to hunt by scent. A Beagle likes the company of people and other dogs and is good with children (but should be supervised around childen as with any dog). He should therefore not be kept in a household where he is going to be left alone all day.

Health:

If all breeds were as healthy as the Beagle many vets would go out of business. Providing they are looked after, they will rarely need veterinary attention. They will of course, require their vaccinations against disease and regular anti-worm treatment.

Grooming:

A naturally clean animal, the Beagle is easy to groom, requiring only a few minutes brushing daily and an occasional bath.

Homing & Excerise:

The popular Beagle is a small, pack oriented hunting hound. Although his natural instinct is to hunt, he is highly adaptable and adjusts happily to a suburban backyard, as long as he has regular exercise to keep him fit while providing him with a change of scene and scent, and company - either human or another dog.

Friendly, playful and eager to please, the Beagle can be wilful. Possessed of great stamina, determination and a definite mind of his own, this picturesque and personality-plus little hound has a tendency to roam. He requires a well fenced yard and firm, patient handling and plenty of toys to play with and chew.

Vaccination:

These vaccinations protect your puppy against distemper, infectious hepatitis and parvoirus. This injection by the Vet should be given around the same date every year.

Worming:

All dogs need to be wormed every 4 months. These can be purchased from the Vet or any Supermarket.

Heart Worming:

You will need to purchase a box from your Vet (these come with 6 chewable tablets) which are given the same date every month. Once your puppy is 9 months they can receive a Pro Heart Injection (once yearly) instead of giving the chewable heartgard tablets every month - (to the owners choice, tablets or injection which ever suits).

Hope this informations helps you to enjoy your Beagle puppy
